(NC) Ramped up the distance slightly today (50% of the remaining amount) and straightforward despite the reality of what we are about to achieve starting to sink in. Had an 8.30 appointment with the local press photog so were ready to hit the road straight after. Although we probably needed a slightly earlier start given the distance, we timed our run well, getting good conditions and escaped the bulk of the rain. So hit up the shops after the photo shoot and rode 75km pretty much straight through to a rest stop of the side of the highway for lunch. Making good time we didn’t stay long and enjoyed fantastic headwinds all afternoon and all the way into Ballina. Riding today seemed to come as a pleasure, certainly because of the tailwinds but also the fact that it is our 3rd last day riding and the last of the “normal distances”, we won’t be doing this for very much longer and for some reason that’s a little difficult to grasp. Arrived in Ballina and hit up the Woolies just after 5 deciding that would be the best option for groceries instead of Lennox.
It is a short ride through to Lennox Head, about 8km from Ballina and despite having more hills than the previous 140km it was a nice ride out along the beach. Arriving at the “head” in Lennox I was keen to catch a glimpse of the surf as it is renowned as one of the best right handers in the world. Despite their being quite a few guys out, I wished I was out also as their was a wave on given the sou easter. No rest for the wicked tho as we had another reporter to meet just after 6 down at the YHA which is our overnighter. Another photo and interview for the day before a quick swim, dinner and bed (and a couple of hours on the Toughbook updating the blog! Exciting times crew, stay tuned!!!
