Day: 86.0km, Total: 15,636.4km
(MS) Left the peaceful surrounding of Lindsay’s farm to rejoin the highway with all its trucks, it was a shame to leave the farm and we can appreciate why Lindsay enjoys living there, plus its only 15mins into town. The clouds above told us that we were in for a wet one and that’s what we got; the cyclone up near Rockhampton is slowly dying down but giving the lower coast a downpour that will hopefully stop by the time we reach the Gold Coast on Thursday. Now that we are coming to the end we only have some short rides ahead of us and today’s 90 odd km unfortunately took longer than it should have due to the rain.
It felt like we had “been through every kind of rain there is. Little bitty stingin’ rain… and big ol’ fat rain. Rain that flew in sideways. And sometimes rain even seemed to come straight up from underneath (bouncing off the road)”. (yep I’ve been waiting a while to use that one). We did make it to Grafton in time put a load of washing on and do all those other little things that just add up. We’re lucky enough to be staying at the Roches Family Hotel, an old pub (1871) close to the river; where in the old days cutters traveled up the Clarence River from the coast and the towns streets are lined with grand old Jacaranda tress. Please let tomorrow be a bit dryer.
